Living in Nice

As I mentioned before, we purchase a baguette daily from our favorite boulangerie. We go right before lunch so it's fresh for our ham and cheese sandwiches. The same young man helps us everyday and has the specific type of baguette we like in his hand before we even order. It's nice to be recognized! (btw, our specialty baguette costs the equivalent of $1.20)
Even in a larger city, there are a lot of what I would call small town characteristics. There are small clothing shops, boulangeries, fruit markets, and restaurants that seem independently owned. There's a comfortable community feel that goes along with that.
I thought this was interesting... Last week, we took our friends to a restaurant that we previously enjoyed. The waiter recognized us and gave us all small after dinner drinks as a thank you! Our friends who have lived in Nice for a few years told us that this is often done in restaurants you return to.
