S’installer á Nice

We are in week 2 of our adventure of living in the South of France, the city of Nice!  We’re in an Airbnb and will move into our apartment on the 23rd.  It’s in a 1933 building, has a lot of charm, and a nice view.  It’s been exciting but challenging as we knew it would be.  Getting a bank account, utilities, phone number, dealing with a circuit breaker issue with the landlord in French and hoping it gets fixed before we move in.  Processes for many things are very different than they are in the USA.  We’re also plugging away at furnishing the place. France is big on reusing things so thrifting is big here.  I’m not a thrift store person but there are some amazing pieces of old furniture!  We bought a beautiful armoire for 150€ (there are no closets in the apartment).  However, we paid 200€ to get this heavy piece of furniture delivered to the 6th floor.  But it was worth it to us! Getting a lot of essential things at IKEA and hoping to fill in the rest slowly with thrift finds.  People have been so nice to us and very patient with our French.  We’ve gotten the hang of the public transit, trams.  But we’re also getting 10,000-12,000 steps a day.

I love the old colorful buildings & cute narrow streets and that every store and restaurant is unique.

Yesterday,  Matthew found out that he got the fully funded scholarship for his 5 year computer science and teaching PHD in Glasgow!  Flights between Glasgow and Nice are cheap which is nice!

Latest challenge is that the elevator broke in our apartment building; so we climb 6 flights to take stuff up to our place.  Hopefully it’ll be fixed soon!  On the up side, the exercise offsets the croissants🥐 cheese🧀 and 🍷 .
